How to Make Better Requests

#Also useful for Art-trades

A Few Things You Need To Remember.

- You’re getting this for free. If you’re going to complain and be picky about the outcome then you need to commission someone, otherwise it’s not fair.

- If you’re doing an art-trade always keep your part of the deal. (Or at least attempt to.)

- You might want to make a list of what you will and won’t draw (ie: won’t draw up to a certain number of characters, Graphic nudity, etc.)

- Here’s a list of icons you can use to show your status: need-moar-plz-llamas.deviantar…

- If you're doing an Art-trade you should realise that [maybe] you're asking too much for what you've done in return.
(ex: say you've given them a sketch you've completed in a minute and they've taken days to complete theirs.)

Making the request.

- Something I can’t stress enough, Be clear about what you want. for obvious reasons.

- If you're requesting more than 2 characters you should explain the relationship between them.

- Have the name the character, a reference or character description, and what you want the drawing to be. Example of a good, very simple request:
Can I have a drawing of my oc Blahblah [link] dancing with Kakashi from Naruto?

Taking a request.

- If you are asked to draw something out of your comfort zone, it may cause problems later.

- Don’t feel obliged to draw something you either don’t want to or don’t feel you can draw.

- If they ask for something that is way too much effort for you, you should say so.

While you wait you should know:

- Most artworks take longer than a day. Don’t rush them.

Etiquette once they have finished your request.

- Unless you know them well and you know they don’t mind it, DON’T tell them everything they got wrong in the finished piece (if they did get anything wrong) it’s really rude.

- Your comment on the request should be a little more detailed then “Thank you.” I know it’s not a very big deal but it is disappointing to go to a lot of work and to just get a ‘Thank you’. Think about your comment before you post it.

- ALWAYS favourite and comment on the finished piece. It’s rude not to.

Thank you!! Thank you!! Thank you!!!

So good information about ATs and requests ( I barely ask for requests anymore sounds like really childish for me anymore but I do ATs because I like interacting with other people draw others' characters and get mine drawn.

And you're right in everything you said.

Especially with the comments. I remember in the start I was doing free requests.
It was a bit disappointing to see that they don't even left a like on it.

Thank you again for posting this wise journal.
It's beautiful!! :)
